    What happens if I don't have a Power of Attorney?

    Without a Power of Attorney in place, if you become unable to make decisions for yourself, the court may appoint someone to act on your behalf. This could lead to delays, added costs, and potential disagreements among family members.

      The Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) currently charges a registration fee of up to £82 for each Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA). From 17 November 2025, the fee will increase to £92 per LPA.

      The registration fee is paid directly to the OPG once the power of attorney paperwork registration process begins. You can choose to pay by card or cheque. If you opt to pay by card, the OPG will contact you directly to arrange payment at a later stage.
